School Sport

Berkeley Vale School conducts a comprehensive Sports Program that gives all students the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting activities catering to all levels of ability from recreational pursuits to competitive individual and team competitions.

All students K-6 upon enrolment are allocated to one of the four Sport Houses which are named after waterbirds that inhabit the local area around Tuggerah Lakes:

  • Egret House whose colour is red;
  • Heron House whose colour is orange;
  • Ibis House whose colour is green;
  • Jabiru House whose colour is purple.

School sport sessions are on different days for different stages- all students must wear a school hat for sport.

Students are given many opportunities during the year with Carnivals, House Sport, Away Sport, Gala Days and State Knock-Out Competitions in AFL, Cricket, Netball, Rugby League, Touch Football, Soccer and Tennis.

Primary students in years 3-6 participate in the three traditional School Carnivals of Swimming, Cross-Country and Athletics. The Sport Houses compete against each other for the honour of winning the carnival trophy for the next 12 months. Students who excel at the School Carnivals progress to the next level of competition at the Zone, District, Regional and finally State Carnivals.
